Wrap with Love is a mission of mercy not a charity. They craft personal wraps/rugs, hand knitted, machine knitted, crocheted, woven, patchworked or quilted.
Approximately 25,000 Love Wrap workers around Australia are volunteers.
Wrap with Love is non-racist, non-denominational and non-political. Wraps must not be bought, sold or traded. They are a gift of loving work from the people of Australia to show that we care.Wraps are made of 28 squares of 25 cm each to be 178 x 102 cm as required by the Aid Agencies they support.
Wrap with Love started in 1992. They would like cash donations for expenses. Mail to PO Box 10 Rosebery NSW 1445 or phone 02 8399 3000. Register as a volunteer.

NSW Finalists Announced for Australian
of the Year Awards 2008

Sonia Gidley-King
Practical humanitarian

Horrified on realising the numbers of people world-wide who die of hypothermia,
Sonia Gidley-King responded in the most practical way. She organised groups of
volunteers to knit, crochet, or weave woollen squares, 25 centimetres each, to
make warm wraps to keep out the cold. Since 1992 Sonia's determination and
dedication has seen over 133,000 wraps sent to Africa, Afghanistan, India, South
America, and anywhere else there is a need. All the work is done by volunteers -
about 25,000 'Love Wrap' workers around Australia - and her Knit-In program is
becoming legendary, with more than 7,000 participating recently. Sonia's Wrap
With Love organisation is not a charity but a mission of mercy; it is non-
denominational, non-political, and non-discriminatory and the wraps are not
bought, sold, or traded. The rugs and quilts are a gift to people who have little,
giving them hope because they know that someone, somewhere in Australia has
made it with love.

Sonia Gidley-King runner-up Senior Australian of the Year

Ann Henderson nominated Sonia Gidley-King for Senior Australian of the Year. Sonia was one of three runners-up for NSW in that category. She joins an elite group of 128 extraordinary Australians from each State and Territory commended for their contribution to the community both local and world-wide.
Sonia has already received her citation at the Awards Ceremony held at the Art Gallery of NSW. Sonia will be 80 next month and began ‘Wraps with Love’ 15 years ago. God alone knows how many lives she has saved and how much comfort these little wraps have brought to people all over the world. Thousands of Australians are involved in her “knit-ins” including the ones held at KRB. Many of you are involved helping her and we are all very proud of Sonia. She was very happy to receive the card sent by the Alumnae Association congratulating her. She is an inspiration to all of us proud Australians.
