The Chapel Society Celebrates Our Silver Anniversary
- 25 Years – 1983 - 2008
The first bride in the Chapel, Sue Burns, (daughter of Mary (Horsley)
and Dr Harding Burns) and her husband, Stephen Bowers, celebrated their
Silver anniversary on 7th May, 2008.
At a recent Chapel wedding, I met the third bride, Anne
Montgomery (Fahey) and her husband Robert, who were married in January,
1984. Anne and Robert were guests at the wedding of her niece, Emma Foster.
Over 450 weddings have taken place and while each one is
different, every one is full of happiness. The candles are lit, the flowers
are in place, and the music soars in the splendid acoustics. And by this
time next year, the Puget organ, magnificently restored, will be back
in its home in the tribune to be heard at many more weddings in the years
to come.
Did you know that there is a pipe in the Puget organ
dedicated to all brides? A façade pipe is dedicated to the
previous wedding supervisor, Mrs Brenda Carmody, and donations for that
pipe have come from many brides in memory of their wedding day.
On your next wedding anniversary, please consider a donation to The Chapel
Society. As the organ’s restoration nears completion, all donations
and the sponsorship of pipes are vital for its success as we come to the
end of many years of planning and four years of restoration in France.
The Class of 2007 has donated a façade pipe. Thank you all, you
will have a lasting reminder of your years together every time you enter
the Chapel. A recent pipe sponsorship from a family whose mother, two
daughters and three sons are all alumnae/i has a very beautiful dedication
– “With loving thanks and eternal gratitude for our Sacré
Coeur education”.
Wedding Guidelines
The Chapel Wedding guidelines have been revised and weddings are now available
for siblings and children of alumnae/i. The brother of an alumna will
be married in October.
Wedding bookings are made with Mrs Marilyn
Hall at the School on 9388-6138, and a member of The Chapel
Society attends all weddings to greet guests. Many guests are seeing the
Chapel for the first time and we ensure they receive a copy of the history
of both the Chapel and the Puget organ. Overseas guests especially appreciate
this.
The Return of the Organ
The organ will return from France by sea to arrive in December, 2008.
Organ builder Charles Henry and his son Ionathan will arrive before Christmas
to begin work and continue through January/February until it is finished.
They have organised a very precise schedule and meticulous planning is
in place so that no disruption will occur to the School.
