Archives of Sacré-Coeur Association of NSW
Report from Sister Margaret McKay rscj on 29 June, 2010
Our first six months in the new Archives have been very busy and have
passed quickly, and this evening it gives me great pleasure to introduce
our new archivist, Dominique Novak d'Hennin. Dom completed all
her schooling at Kincoppal-Rose Bay, right from Prep at Barat-Burn to
her Higher School certificate in 1993, and in addition to her many teaching,
administrative and music qualifications, she is this week completing
a 'bridging' course in Archives at the University of NSW before embarding
on a Graduate Diploma Course in Archives by distant education next year.
There is still much to be done in the Archives and the fit out is far
from complete but we had a very successful Working Bee on the first Saturday
in June. As a result, we have decided to make a definite date for
our Working Bees on the First Saturday of each month from 10am till 3pm,
BYO Lunch, tea and coffee provided. This seemed to meet with unanimous
approval from those present as they could put in their diaries and if
not able to come on one Saturday, at least could possibly come on another
one. Some may only be able spare a couple of hours but every little
helps. It is a great though if we know beforehand who is planning to
come to the Working Bees so we can have the various jobs prepared to
suit, as some prefer to move around and others need to do a "sit-down"
job.
We also hosted a very successful Friday Afternoon Staff Drinks in the
Archives instead of the Staff Room, as once the fit out is completed
we will not be able to have food and drink in the area. Later on
in the year, we hope there will be an official blessing and opening,
so watch this space! This is my last report as by the time we have
another meeting, it will be Dominique reporting, so once again, a big
thank you for all your support and help over the years.
